EOS Young Photographer Award

I knew about this contest when I saw the commercial on the cable channel. You know how our generation people always say they don't really watch TV anymore? Well, my sister was watching drama on the TV and I happened to be in the living room when the commercial played. I am so glad I did not miss it!

So, the commercial was short and sweet yet it captured my attention (link to the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q5hgM9gLw3M). I only went to the website the next day, because I can't stop thinking about it. The prizes are really attractive! I think what attracted me the most was the all-expenses paid National Geographic Photography Workshop for one in the US. I would really love to have the opportunity to travel and learn! I think this is the main reason I keep thinking of it.

I heart photography, but I will never call myself a pro. But I decided to join the competition because I want to give it a try! There is nothing I will lose out from joining right? I hope I can win but I know the competition is tough. Check the gallery and you can easily see many other photos that are so awesome.

Check out the Competition criteria:
A “Participant” means a person of age 13-25 years old on their date of entry to the Competition who is a citizen or permanent resident of, and resides in, one of the following countries, and who submits a Qualifying Entry during the Competition Period:
Brunei, Cambodia, China, Fiji, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Korea, Krygyzstan, Macau, Maldives, Marshall Islands, Middle East, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Tonga, Vanuatu, Vietnam.

The competition opens up to many countries in the Asia, so just one word, the competition is tough!

I have my share of fear before deciding to join.

I confess, the fear and worry I had was mostly because the need to share and ask people to vote. There is no fear if I can carry it out like a secret mission, joining this competition secretly; and if I win, I can happily announce it, and if I don't, at least no one knows about it. Right?

I'm such a socially awkward person, so how do I garner votes? I don't really have that many friends that I can call upon to help me vote. What if the response are cold? Do I really have what it takes to have someone cast their votes for me? Yea, I worry that much.

But I decided that I shall give it a go, cause I will never know the result if I never try. At least I should try to bring the probability higher than 0. I am aware that they will be judging base on skill, so this isn't much of a popularity contest. But I think, if I garner a few votes, it may increase the chance of being noted? (maybe?)

So when I decided I shall give it a go, I look through my photos and wonder what to submit. I kept going over and over again on the theme ‘A Celebration of Colour’. I pondered for long and decided to submit these few photos.

I submitted a total of 7 photos, and I hope the street shot can be ignored. I think I submitted it accidentally, and the title is same as the crowd shot at the train station.

I do not know whether they are good or not (i hope they are though!), but I love these photos pretty much. In particular the photo that is titled "Theme Park Fun", which I took it at Eda Theme Park when I was in Taiwan, Kaohsiung (and I have not blog about it yet). I like how the water droplets are blurred yet the family are sharp. I remember how hard the kids was trying to pump and shoot the water out, and to give up later when they realised how tough it was, and perhaps, they were bored by it. I love the concert photo, I like the myriad of colours that you can see - the light stick from the crowd, the stage, the firework & the confetti. I feel it fits the theme perfectly, celebration of colour. The photo that is titled "Still", I love it because of the bird that is on the railing. I can go on and on.. but I think it might bores people out.

So, if you have read till this far:
first, I would like to thank you!!!
second, Please help me to vote all of the photos I submitted!

GO TO: http://www.celebrationofcolour.com/gallery/#/keyword/kerrin
(NOTE: you can only access the website on a computer and it is impossible to enter on mobile devices - I know how inconvenient it is!)

Click the heart button to cast your vote! I don't know if Facebook likes counts. But in any case, if you can do both, it would be great! I think you can use that to shout out to your friends?

From what i know, you can cast your votes everyday. I am not asking you all to do that since I don't know if I will be that free. But if you can, help me cast a vote every once in a while if you are free? Help me shout out to your friends, maybe? Ahhhh.. (this is really awkward!)

And hey, I would encourage anyone who is interest to join this competition too, if you are eligible. Just give it a go! They will be judging base solely on skill. And you do not need to own a Canon camera to join! Any brand of camera can do (I am using Olympus EP3)! The competition closing date is 3 June 2013! I am thinking of submitting more photos, but I will do that after exam!

I submitted my photos on 17 Apr 2013, and have been waiting for the emails that indicated it was accepted. I was pretty excited about it that I checked my inbox and the gallery daily, but always ended up with disappointment. But on 20 Apr 2013, I finally found my photos in the gallery! I did not receive the email. So if you are thinking of joining, be patient! And if you are joining, please drop the link of the photo in the comment box, I can help casting votes too!

Go to the website and submit your entries as well!

Hello, some life updates!

A collage of my favorite instagram photos I took in the month of March.

To anyone that come across this site, first of all, WELCOME!

I have been trying to update this space regularly since I started. My main objective was to share the photos I took. There are still many things I would like to share, in particular the Taiwan trip. But my exam is coming, and so I decided to keep my laptop away. This increase my table space and it also stops me from spending hours on it to edit the photos and other stuffs. Anyway my laptop is getting old and whacky, so it can be frustrating to use it sometimes.

But today I planned to get some school stuffs done, so I booted up the laptop. Conveniently, I decided to push out the entry "Dan Shui". I had prepared the entry together with the entry titled "Ya Rou Bian". But what took me so long to push them out?? Well, all because I dislike how the photos appeared when I viewed it from my ipad or phone. I have been holding it back, thinking that I can edit the photos when I use my laptop again. But still, I don't understand why it was not obvious when I first edit it with my laptop.

Life now is definitely not at its best. It is pretty boring. But still, I will go strong and be back in May!

Till then!

*Sad to say that I am unable to keep my monthly month-end entry. Cause editing photos and drawing up a blog entry is really time consuming.

Taiwan Travelogue: Dan Shui

30/12/2013

When we reached Dan Shui, we instantly felt cold. Before we head out, we did saw the news saying it would be coldest at Dan Shui cause of the cold current. And true enough, it was so cold, around 8 degrees.

^ Did you see the puppy's head popping out?

Our destination was Fisherman's Wharf. But due to the bad weather, there was no ferry in operation. And we did the unthinkable, we walked. It was an hour long walk. It sounded a bit crazy but the walk was pretty relaxing~ and cold. I don't know why we didn't think of taking bus in the first place.

I had problems with my memory card so my camera was down. But when we reach the place, I tried it again and manage to get it working. The sky has already turned dark even though it was only 6pm.

^ The failed attempt of jump shot.
^ So I asked them to be still and took a proper one.

^ And we reached the Lover's Bridge.
^ It was so cold. I wore the gloves and I have heat pack in both my hand. I wore the face mask to shield myself when the wind blows. It was so so cold. But I secretly like it.

^^ A proper individual shots of us. Pardon the messy hair cause it was windy.

We were too cold and tired (after an hour of walk), so we did not walk to the other end of the bridge. It was only later when we got back, my friend found out through instagram that we could have saw the signature LOVE logo at the centre of the bridge. We did not know it beforehand, so it was a pity we missed it. Oh well.

At the jetty, there was a beautiful voice singing.

After visiting this place, we quickly hopped on to a bus to get back to the train station.

That's the end of our trip at Dan Shui!

Maybe it was good that we had the one hour long walk. I like those views on our way, and we get to enjoy the cold weather!

After Dan Shui, we made a quick decision to go Shida Night Market since it was around only 7pm. The perks of the free-and-easy travel is that many on-the-road-last-minute-decision was made. And I am lucky my travel mates are all flexible with the idea.

^ ;D

Till then to the next post!

** I am documenting my 2-weeks trip in Taiwan (20 Dec 2012 - 2 Jan 2013), but not in chronological order.
